Abstract

The concept of a secretary oriented EUI system with a profile was described in (*). This type of system is one that is oriented toward the secretary and his/her needs as opposed to that of a principal- oriented system. In a secretary-oriented system, the secretary is more concerned with the current state of the office and not so much with the functions of calendar or mail. This article describes so many of the facility control functions that the secretary needs to make the system more usable. o Highlighting: The secretary needs that ability to tell the secretary-oriented system the information that is important. This information is the information that the system should highlight. o Refresh: The information presented to the secretary represents the current state of the office now.

Secretary Oriented System Customization

       The concept of a secretary oriented EUI system with a
profile was described in (*).  This type of system is one that is
oriented toward the secretary and his/her needs as opposed to that of
a principal- oriented system.  In a secretary-oriented system, the
secretary is more concerned with the current state of the office and
not so much with the functions of calendar or mail.  This article
describes so many of the facility control functions that the
secretary needs to make the system more usable.
      o    Highlighting:  The secretary needs that ability to tell
the secretary-oriented system the information that is important.
This information is the information that the system should highlight.
      o    Refresh:  The information presented to the secretary
represents the current state of the office now.  However, 'now' is a
constantly changing time.  The usefulness of the information can be
extremely dependant on how current it is. Additionally, how old the
information can be and still be useful is dependant on the secretary,
the demands of the job, and the current reason for needing the
information.  The secretary needs the ability to have the information
refreshed on demand and also to have the information refreshed on a
timer basis.
      o    Distribution List Name:  Since the secretary-oriented
system is people oriented, the secretary needs an easy way to specify
the list of people who...
