Two-Sided Calibration Fiducial

       The invention described herein provides a means for
accurately calibrating a pick, place, attach tool consisting of a
prime mover, a fine positioner, a downward-looking camera attached to
the prime mover and one or more upward-looking cameras not attached
to either the prime mover or fine positioner (see Figure 1).

      The invention consists of a unique two-sided fiducial (see
Figure 2) which, when attached to the fine positioner, can be moved
via software to appropriate locations viewable in the same plane by
the upward- and downward-looking cameras.  Locations in both camera
space and fine positioner space can then be recorded, thus connecting
the system elements with respect to each other.

      When the fiducial shown in Figure 2 is seen from any camera, a
round dot appears.  The light source is made in such a manner as to
provide a round dot, flat over the viewable area.

      The fiducial is mounted on the fine positioner so that the dot
is in the same plane as the field of view of the cameras.  This
permits both an upward-looking camera and a downward-looking camera
to see virtually the same dot.
