Abstract

A moisture communications (MOCOMM) program for a personal computer is disclosed that simplifies the operation and maintenance of an instrument. It is menu driven and communicates via an RS232 port with a gas moisture analyzer. Originally, the data was collected using six rotary switches located inside the analyzer. All interaction was performed in code and required a user manual to obtain the code.

Moisture Communications Program

      A moisture communications (MOCOMM) program for a personal
computer is disclosed that simplifies the operation and maintenance
of an instrument.  It is menu driven and communicates via an RS232
port with a gas moisture analyzer. Originally, the data was collected
using six rotary switches located inside the analyzer.  All
interaction was performed in code and required a user manual to
obtain the code.

      The FIG. is a data flow diagram of the MOCOMM communications
program.  The heart of the program is based on function keys which
are defined by the analyzer protocol and described in the FIG.  All
of the functions perform the necessary routines for maintenance of
the analyzer. However, every function is not necessarily utilized for
all operations.  For example, to test the HIGH CONTENT ALARM, only
function marked "SET RELAYS & VALVES" would be used.

      Calibration and Delta Zero adjustments are automated and
require only minimal user input.  All required calculations are
performed by the analyzer, thus reducing possible malfunctions due to
operator error.
