Abstract

The PROM Flush Controller (PFC) consists of a hardware implemented instruction that reads every location in the PROM and, using a form of data compression, obtains a unique signature. During this compression the contents of the PROM are not executed until the address counter to the PROM rolls over. The data compression is implemented after a PROM Flush instruction is executed from the PROM. A status bit is then set to indicate that a PROM Flush instruction has been executed since reset. Both the PROM Flush instruction and the compared signature are part of the PROM contents under test and are, therefore, part of this unique signature.

PROM Flush Controller

The PROM Flush Controller (PFC) consists of a hardware
implemented instruction that reads every location in the PROM and,
using a form of data compression, obtains a unique signature.  During
this compression the contents of the PROM are not executed until the
address counter to the PROM rolls over.  The data compression is
implemented after a PROM Flush instruction is executed from the PROM.
A status bit is then set to indicate that a PROM Flush instruction
has been executed since reset. Both the PROM Flush instruction and
the compared signature are part of the PROM contents under test and
are, therefore, part of this unique signature.

Note that when the controlling PROM is taken off line, its
contents are analyzed and then restored to a known state without its
control.
