Free Floating Head Cleaning Disk

Described is a device which cleans the air bearing surface on
the rails of glide test heads.

A finished disk 1, shown in the figure, is used as a base, then
two 3-micron film pads 2 are cut to the same shape of the disk and
bonded to the disk at the I.D.  This therefore allows the outer
radius of the pad to float freely on the disk surface.

In use, the test heads would be loaded onto the pad area at the
O.D.  The disk is then spun to 200 rpm for approximately 4 seconds
then stopped.  The heads are then unloaded and the process is
complete.  The rails and tapered surfaces are thereby lapped clean by
the pads as they were snowplowed and wiped under the rail surfaces.

After a planned number of uses, the pads are then removed and
new pads are put into its place.
