Abstract

A level sensor is described for liquid nitrogen that is based on the High Tc superconductor materials with superconducting transition temperatures that are greater than 77~K. The superconductor based on the copper oxide compounds, i.e., Y1Ba2Cu3O7 can be in a variety of forms, strip or film that traverses the length of the container where one end of the strip or film is in contact with the surface of the liquid when the container is full and the opposite end is in contact with the surface prior to its being empty. The length of superconductor is calibrated to the containers content. When calibrated, the superconductor will act as a sliding short to indicate the level of liquid content.
