Defect Mapping Utility for Display of Data Retrieved from an Inspec tion System

Disclosed  is  a  defect  mapping  utility  for  a
personal computer (PC) which presents location, size, and defect-type
information from the inspection of a  blank  ceramic  sheet. Zoom
and  expand  capabilities  are  provided  for a better pictorial
view  of the defects.  The defect map can also be switched to show
either  defect  types  or  relative  defect sizes.

The  defect data generated by the inspection system are stored
as a binary file for  later  analysis.    The  defect type,  X  and
Y location, X and Y length, and total area of each defect are stored.
Once filed,  this  information  is then  readily  available for use
by any system utility.  The defect mapping utility is one such
utility.

As  shown  in  the  figure, the display screen contains several
areas of information.  The large block displays  one view of the
sheet.  The current window coordinates displayed in  that view are
given at the corners of the block.  On the right side are  the
options  available  for  moving  around within  the window including
an option for switching between showing defect types or defect sizes.
The  block  in  the lower  right  corner  of  the screen shows where
the current view is focused within the entirety of the window.

A defect parameter file is maintained for this  utility to
associate a particular color with each defect type.  This facilitates
the grouping of defects by severity or any other criteria.

The  zoom  and  expand  features operate in similar but
opposite ways.  When one of these features  is  chosen,  the...
