Abstract

A lighted tray nest was developed together with a unique software package to enable keeping track, by serial number (not readable by the human eye), of the parts inside any given tray. This lighted tray nest would also select the parts to be audited for inspection. Test result is then transmitted to the host computer which would determine if the lot would pass or fail on the audit.

Lighted Tray Nest for Data Collection

       A lighted tray nest was developed together with a unique
software package to enable keeping track, by serial number (not
readable by the human eye), of the parts inside any given tray.  This
lighted tray nest would also select the parts to be audited for
inspection.  Test result is then transmitted to the host computer
which would determine if the lot would pass or fail on the audit.

      This lighted tray nest would also be used for 100% inspection
of production parts in cases where they failed the audit.  In this
case failed parts would be put in a separate tray and identify the
parameter that it failed. These parts would be put on hold for
possible off- spec.

      Referring to the figure, one unique feature of this lighted
tray nest is the bar code 1 interface with the host computer which
would enable the operator to identify the serial number of the parts
as well as tell the operator which position of tray the part should
be placed by means of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) 2.

      The assembly contains four locating pads 3 to locate and hold
the production trays above the LEDs (see the figure).

      LEDs are controlled by the data manager (PS/2* computer) to
indicate which position on the tray to select a particular production
part for testing.  This would also ensure that the operator would
return the same part to its original position.
