Planner Application for Creating Manufacturing Production Schedules

       Disclosed is a set of programs titled the Planner that
assists manufacturing personnel and floor control personnel in
creating a production schedule (a "plan") for a "build to plan"
manufacturing environment.  In addition, the Planner application
allows a user to prepare information required to support the
operation of the manufacturing line. Inputs

      The Planner application requires the user to enter the
following information:
  1.  Product information including type of card, part
      numbers, and  bar code headers.
  2.  Configuration information including shift hours,
      number of days in the week, day starting the week, and
      percent of crew per shift. (Refer to Fig. 1.)
  3.  List of data collection points (routing). Specify for
      each data collection point.

      b.  Target cycle time The Planner application uses
          this information to calculate the "plan."
  Generation of the Plan.

      To initiate the calculation of the "plan," after the user
enters the information described above, he enters a planned build
volume for a specific product.  The user specifies a week and the
amount of product to be built during that week.  The Planner
application uses these weekly totals to generate daily, shift, and
hourly totals required to meet the week's plan.  (Refer to Figs. 2
