Disclosed is a set of programs titled the Data Collection Terminal Interface that provides an inexpensive, minimal function terminal for the manufacturing environment. The data collection terminal interface operates with minimal intervention from the controlling personal computer at all times and has the ability to operate with no intervention for an extended period of time. In addition, the terminal interface provides an efficient, logical, multi-level, touch screen-based user interface. Data Collection Terminal Interface

Disclosed is a set of programs titled the Data Collection
Terminal Interface that provides an inexpensive, minimal function
terminal for the manufacturing environment. The data collection
terminal interface operates with minimal intervention from the
controlling personal computer at all times and has the ability to
operate with no intervention for an extended period of time.  In
addition, the terminal interface provides an efficient, logical,
multi-level, touch screen-based user interface.  Also, the screen
application is modal; therefore, the same terminal application
program behaves differently as specified by configuration parameters.
The Data Collection Terminal Interface consist of software components
running in an OS/2*/Distributed Automation Edition (DAE) environment.
Function Overview

The Data Collection Terminal Interface requires one PS/2*
machine (e.g., mod 80), including a 1-meg Multiport/2 ARTIC adapter
card, and one or more IBM 7527 mod 2 terminals with touch screens
chained to the ARTIC card on a 422 protocol serial line.

The Data Collection Terminal Interface consists of three
software components:
     1. I/O functions for 'N' number of 7527 terminals.
This function utilizes the features of DAE/Device Data
Management System (DDMS) to send and receive data to and from 7527
terminals.
     2. User Interface for the 7527 terminal which includes the
following functions:
        a. WIP 'Introduction' into the manufacturing line
        b. WIP 'Receipt' into a manufacturing operation
        c. WIP 'Claim' out of a manufacturing operation
        d. WIP 'Swap' identification of a unit of WIP
     3. Configuration for the 7527 terminals.
(Refer to the figure to review screen layouts.)
I/O Functions

The Data Collection Terminal I/O program executes on the
Multiport/2 ARTIC card.  It creates and handles the liaison between
the 7527 terminals attached to the ARTIC card and the applications
running in the PS/2.  This application "speaks" both DDMS (i.e., the
