Abstract

This article addresses the need to provide an interface for access to batch job facilities in MVS to all Office environments. Batch job facilities is a major method to accomplish work in the MVS environment. The facility is not available to users in the Office environment, even in MVS. This facility would provide the ability to submit batch jobs from the Office environment and receive both output and job completion notification. This ability would be available to both Office users and for the Office Component itself. This would involve an interface to the Job Entry Subsystem (JES). The function must have a method to return the completion notification to the user.

Access to MVS Background Task Processing from the Office Environment

for access to batch job facilities in MVS to all Office environments.
Batch job facilities is a major method to accomplish work in the MVS

environment, even in MVS. This facility would provide the ability to
submit batch jobs from the Office environment and receive both output

both Office users and for the Office Component itself.  This would
involve an interface to the Job Entry Subsystem (JES). The function
must have a method to return the completion notification to the user.

The solution is to provide a general function that will allow
batch job submission from all Office environments. This function
would be located in APPC/MVS and provide an interface in CICS and
other requester environments.  The function would provide an
interface to the Job Entry Subsystem (JES) for submitting batch jobs.
The interface to the function would allow a user to to send mail to
this interface which contains the request to submit a batch job. This
type of mail would be specified by a document type marked as Job
Control Language (JCL).  JCL is the language for requesting batch job
processing in the MVS operating system.  The reply to this mail would
be the acknowledgement of job submission, known as a job n...
