Expression Control

Controls provide an object oriented approach for
programming, reduce the logical complexity and ensure uniformity and
assimilation of a user interface.  Current controls provide for a
specific property for object manipulation. A  control which can
provide the function of an expression evaluation allows provision of
additional object manipulation.

The expression control will adhere to the WinCreateWindow()
function under the IBM Presentation Manager* (PM) API with a class
name of WC_EXPR for its creation class.  The control has properties
of the class WC_FRAME except it is frameless.  If the programmer
wishes it to be framed the parent of WC_EXPR should be a WC_FRAME.
This will provide flexibility to the user interface.  The WC_EXPR
class has inherent two messages, XM_SEND, XM_QUERY. The
XM_SEND/XM_QUERY message will enable the programmer to send an
expression and query the answer.  The expression evaluator will
handle implicit multiplication and transcendental functions.  For
example, the expression control could be used in combination with an
IBM PM edit control to allow the user to enter calculations for a
calculator object; or it can be in combination with stock information
service for computation service to an application.
