Vibration Attenuator for MICRO Channel Cards

       MICRO CHANNEL* adapter cards are prone to connector tab
wear due to relative motion between the card tab and connector
contact caused by vibration during system shipping.

      The vibration attenuator, here described, was designed for
field upgrades of the PS/2* mod. 95 product family. Modification of
this design can be easily implemented for other products using MICRO
CHANNEL architecture.

      The attenuator adds support by engaging the adapter card edge
very close to the tab area.  This design has shown to significantly
reduce the relative motion, due to vibration, between the card tab
and connector contact, thus resolving the tab wear problem.

      The attenuator consists of a molded neoprene block assembly
which mounts on the planar, using existing mounting hardware,
immediately adjacent to the MICRO CHANNEL connectors.  This assembly
has slots molded into the neoprene rubber which engage the adapter
cards as they are installed.

      Fig. 1 shows the attenuator assembly with A) 8 slots (8 car
positions) and B) two mounting legs.

      Fig. 2 shows the assembly A mounted on board B by two mounting
screws C immediately adjacent to MICRO CHANNEL connectors D.  Also
shown is card E engaged by the MICRO CHANNEL connector and the
attenuator.

      The advantages of this solution are:
