Abstract

Card-edge connector systems require lubrication to facilitate card insertion and to minimize the mechanical wear of the gold-plated card contacts. Application of these connector systems in machines designed for field upgrade feature cards exposes the unused connection to dust contamination. This contamination reduces the reliability of the connector system. (Image Omitted)

Connector Lubricating Seal

Card-edge connector systems require lubrication to
facilitate card insertion and to minimize the mechanical wear of the
gold-plated card contacts.  Application of these connector systems in
machines designed for field upgrade feature cards exposes the unused
connection to dust contamination.  This contamination reduces the
reliability of the connector system.

The connector lubricating seal provides a method of cleaning
and lubricating the card contacts during insertion. Edges of the seal
wipe the card contact area free of dust debris and apply a thin film
of lubrication during card insertion.

The device provides a seal to keep unused connectors free of
dust contamination.  The seal also prevents dust from entering the
contact area of connectors with cards inserted by sealing against the
card surface.
