Pop-up Indicator Control

       Disclosed is a visual device that assists the users of a
Personal Computer in accessing the Pop-Up menus provided for each
object on the screen (i.e., Entry fields, Icons, etc.).

      Currently in a multimedia graphical user interface such as the
one CUA91 (Common User Access 1991) guidelines provide, the object-
oriented approach dictates that a Pop-Up menu be provided for each
iconic object on the screen.  This menu which leads to further
specific information for each object is accessed via a right mouse
click on that object.  However, there is no visual clue as to the
availability of this function.  A good user interface design will
rely less on the memory and training of the user and more on the
intuitive design to allow for an easier interface between man and
machine.

      This invention is composed of allowing a small box with a
pointer arrow down next to the name of each icon (Fig. 2) or in the
case of entry fields, to the left of each entry field (Fig. 1).  This
design is in keeping with the industry standard right arrow in a
small box to the right of an item, indicating  further menus (nested
menuing technique). Therefore, such familiarity will carry through to
the availability of a Pop-Up menu for a given object.  This Pop-Up
Indicator Control is a visual clue that further information is
available for an object, in the form of a Pop-Up menu and using the
