Abstract

Disclosed is a program technique for obtaining product tailoring and configuration data via machine readable worksheets vs. using multiple ISPF panels or having the user edit numerous JCL members. A program reads the worksheets and parses each entry. The entries are in a variable = value format. The program then creates an ISPF shared pool variable as named and having the value given. The ISPF variable can then be used in ISPF skeletons for creating JCL and/or SYSIN data.

Use of Machine Readable Worksheets for Capturing Product Tailoring and Configuration Information

       Disclosed is a program technique for obtaining product
tailoring and configuration data via machine readable worksheets vs.
using multiple ISPF panels or having the user edit numerous JCL
members. A program reads the worksheets and parses each entry.  The
entries are in a variable = value format.  The program then creates
an ISPF shared pool variable as named and having the value given.
The ISPF variable can then be used in ISPF skeletons for creating JCL
and/or SYSIN data.

      A partial example of a worksheet is:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

get your OV/MVS tape(s) from ISMD? *
ISMDUSER=YES                   /* (YES NO) */
* * * * * * * * * * *
*
* Did you get your OV/MVS tape(s) from CBPDO?
*
PDOUSER=NO                     /* (YES NO) */
* * * * * * * * * * *
*
* Did you get your OV/MVS tape(s) from CBIPO?
*
IPOUSER=NO                     /* (YES NO) */

      When reading the first entry, the program will create an ISPF
shared pool variable of &ISMDUSER and assign a value of YES to it.
The value of the variable may then be validated by the program and
used in ISPF JCL Skeletons for making logic decisions or the value
substituted in the JCL.

      The advantages of this approach over the conventional gathering
of values via multiple ISPF panels are:
