Abstract

Disclosed is a design for a RAM card that can be inserted into a floppy drive. The card contains ROM, RAM, control logic and an electromagnetic transducer (a coil etched on the card), henceforth called the Hotspot. The card has the dimensions of a floppy disk, and is designed so that it will not turn when inserted in the floppy drive and will have the Hotspot under the read/write head. During a read operation the head of the floppy drive senses the time-varying field produced by the transducer located at the Hotspot. On the other hand, during a write operation, the transducer at the Hotspot senses the time varying field produced by the head of the floppy drive and reproduces it for the read after write operation.

a floppy drive.  The card contains ROM, RAM, control logic and an

called the Hotspot.  The card has the dimensions of a floppy disk,

      The card is powered by a battery, possibly rechargeable.  The
floppy head/Hotspot pair can be used as a transformer to supply power
to the card.
