As people begin using on-line documents more than hard-copy documents, the need for an on-line stapler becomes apparent. As with hard-copy documents, users need to attach soft-copy documents to each other using a tool that occupies very little room on the computer screen and is easy to learn and use.

On-line Stapler

       As people begin using on-line documents more than
hard-copy documents, the need for an on-line stapler becomes
apparent.  As with hard-copy documents, users need to attach
soft-copy documents to each other using a tool that occupies very
little room on the computer screen and is easy to learn and use.

      This article describes the user interface for an on-line
stapler.  The stapler allows computer users to quickly and easily
attach on-line, soft-copy documents to one another.  The stapler
function also occupies very little room on the computer screen
because it appears as a small stapler icon.

      The following text describes the use of the on-line stapler on
an IBM Presentation Manager* Advanced Common User Access*
OfficeVision* workplace.  This environment shows objects, such as
documents, as icons that can be selected and dragged on the computer
display.

      To use the on-line stapler, the user performs the following
steps:
      1.   The user selects the document icons that the user wants to
staple together.
      2.   The user selects the stapler icon.  This action causes a
stapler window to appear, as shown in the figure.  The stapler window
contains the list of document icons in the order that the user
selected the icons.  The user can change the order of the documents
in the list and can delete documents from the list.
      3.   When the user is satisfied with the list of documents, the
user selects the "Staple" pushbutton that appears on the window...
