Liquid Crystal Display

       Disclosed is a color liquid crystal display which has
color filters and which can display colors, and a method for
manufacturing thereof.

      When it is intended to provide a color display using such a
liquid crystal display, it is well-known to form color filters of red
(R), green (G) and blue (B) at locations of corresponding pixels
respectively on the glass substrate.  And a light-shielding layer (=
black matrix) is also formed among the color filters in order to
display color images with high contrast ratio.  An electro-deposited
tri-color filter for use in a full color LCD was previously proposed,
and because of merits such as flat surface and simple manufacturing
process, the color filter has been used in color simple-matrix LCDs.
However, the electro-deposited color filter cannot be used for TFT-
LCDs because their light-shielding layer can be fabricated at only
portions among color filters by self-alignment process and its
optical density is insufficient.

      It is possible to apply the electrodeposited tri-color filter
to TFT-LCDs including a liquid crystal 9 by following
process/structure as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.  Red, green and blue
color filters 3, 4 and 5 are fabricated at locations of corresponding
pixels, respectively, on finely patterned ITO electrodes 2 by
electrodeposition process.  The distance between adjacent ITO
electrodes should be designed as small as possible and consequently
the width of the IT...
