Combination Pin Key Pad Display Signature Device

       The disclosed device is a point of sale terminal that is
used by the customer in a retail environment.  It provides all of the
functions that interface with the customer.  This is done in a
simple, compact and inexpensive unit.

      Referring to the figure, the device consists of a
touch-sensitive panel with an LCD beneath it.  Referring to the
figure, by displaying a signature line, (A), the touch panel can be
written on with any pen or pencil (Transparent Sapphire Cover).  When
numerics are displayed, (B), the customer's PIN (Personal
Identification Number) can be entered by pressing the number with a
finger.  A micro-louver film (3-M) overlay and scrambling the
positions of the numbers provides privacy for the customer.  When
price or weight are displayed, (C), the device is a customer display.
The figure shows this device packaged into a supermarket signature
pedestal with an MSR (Magnetic Strip Reader).

      An electronic swivel is provided for the signature capture
function.  Instead of having to mechanically rotate the signature
screen, the signature line can be tilted by pressing the left hand or
right hand areas of the screen.

      The unique features are:
