Abstract

LAN Services needed to be able to allow Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) countries, such as Japan, to customize a set of features that are installed/configured by the LAN Services installation/configuration program without requiring the code to be recompiled for each country and their unique combinations of features. The use of this flat ASCII file also helps to allow LAN Services to possibly ship concurrently with the US version.

Feature Customization for Installation/ Configuration

LAN Services needed to be able to allow Double Byte
Character Set (DBCS) countries, such as Japan, to customize a set of
features that are installed/configured by the LAN Services
installation/configuration program without requiring the code to be
recompiled for each country and their unique combinations of
features.  The use of this flat ASCII file also helps to allow LAN
Services to possibly ship concurrently with the US version.

The flat ASCII file is provided for each DBCS country to
modify.  This file allows each country to customize some features
that are to be presented to a user of the LAN Services
installation/configuration program on panels which can vary from
country to country.  The table shows those features which can be
modified and are, therefore, parameters in the file.

This file is then packaged on the Requester install and on the
Server install diskettes.  The LAN Services
installation/configuration program will then read this file to
determine what features should be presented to the user via some of
the panels such as the warning panel displaying which CSD is required
for LAN Services 2.0 if the CSD is not already applied.
