Abstract

Whereas IBM LAN Server 1.0 provided a method for modeling a user, the LAN Server 1.2 and 1.3 products do not have this capability. Modeling a user provides the LAN administrator a quick way of creating a user ID which has different characteristics from the model user ID and identical logon profile. The logon profile contains logon assignments for file, print and serial devices and an application presentation list which is dynamically added to the workstation interface.

Provide a Batch Method for Creating a User ID, Modeled After Another User ID on a LAN Server 1.2 1.3 using the REXX Procedure Language

       Whereas IBM LAN Server 1.0 provided a method for modeling
a user, the LAN Server 1.2 and 1.3 products do not have this
capability.  Modeling a user provides the LAN administrator a quick
way of creating a user ID which has different characteristics from
the model user ID and identical logon profile.  The logon profile
contains logon assignments for file, print and serial devices and an
application presentation list which is dynamically added to the
workstation interface.

      This article is a description of a program that provides a
batch method for handling multiple requests.  The input to the
program is a specially formatted file containing the information
necessary to create, change, or delete user IDs.  Two advantages are
immediately apparent; the administrator or another user can enter the
names needed for the domain; the administrator can start the program
and continue with other tasks.

      The special format for this file is as follows:
 *       comments
DOMAIN = servername
ACTION = [ADD   DELETE   CHANGE ]
ACTION = ADD MODEL = modelname
         name1  [password] [A | U] [comment]
         name2  "
         name3  "
         END ACTION = DELETE [PROMPT]
         name1
         name2
         name3
         END
ACTION= CHANGE
