Abstract

Disclosed is a small mini icon that would be placed on the screen in a graphical user interface. This icon would represent the flag of the country whose language is being used in the interface. Example, if the language of the interface is in Japanese, a Japanese flag would be shown in the icon. If French language is used, then the French flag would be shown.

This text was extracted from an ASCII text file.
This is the abbreviated version, containing approximately 100% of the total text.

Language Flag Icon

Disclosed is a small mini icon that would be placed on the
screen in a graphical user interface.  This icon would represent the
flag of the country whose language is being used in the interface.
Example, if the language of the interface is in Japanese, a Japanese
flag would be shown in the icon.  If French language is used, then
the French flag would be shown.

The reason for the invention is that when a user unfamiliar
with a particular language is presented with a screen with only that
language presented, the user would not know what action to activate
(click on which icon ) to change the interface to the language which
is familiar to him.  A flag in most cultures is closely associated
with the language of that culture.  So if the user unfamiliar with
Japanese was to see a user interface all in Japanese, and if a
Japanese flag was presented in an icon form, he would deduce that the
icon is somehow associated with the language used, and is therefore
the key in changing the interface to other languages.

How it would work: when the icon is clicked on (activated) a
pop-up list box is presented with the flags of all the languages
available for the application.  The user then can select the icon
representing the particular country/language of his choice.
