Smart Mail Views

Provided is a technique for displaying the results of "Smart
Mail" operations in order to overcome deficiencies with conventional
techniques.

Provided are conventional forms of information display for mail
systems.  In addition, provide the following enhancements via Smart
Mail operations
Where grouping of information has been requested, automatically
display the various groups together in iconic, icon ring, or other
forms
Where operations have been performed on behalf of the user,
display the objects and results of the operations within the Inbasket
list, e.g., opened envelope icons to indicate that incoming mail
objects were automatically opened and placed on the desktop
Allow user operations on the objects involved, e.g., 2-click a
displayed folder icon to see what objects were saved
Once Smart Mail operations are performed, the Smart
Mail view displays other objects that were not covered by
defined rules
Icons of variable size can be displayed in order to show
increased priority or end user emphasis

An end user will experience the following benefits: new
functionality, a new view of the Inbasket, a presentation format more
consistent with Smart Mail operations, automatic reporting of
operations and results, automatic access to objects involved in
operations, and improved usability of mail handling.
