Abstract

Disclosed is a device to remove heat resistant insulation from 36 AWG wires without exposing the wire to damage. Mechanical removal of the insulation is performed by the creation of a fixed minimum gap cutting blade which protects the wire form damager by improper adjustment of variable cutter. This concept of mechanical removal and fixed stops is key to compliance to Mil Std 2000 which prohibits adjustable mechanisms because of wire damage potential.

Mil-spec Compliant Wire Strippers for Ultra Fine Wire

Disclosed is a device to remove heat resistant insulation from
36 AWG wires without exposing the wire to damage.  Mechanical removal
of the insulation is performed by the creation of a fixed minimum gap
cutting blade which protects the wire form damager by improper
adjustment of variable cutter.  This concept of mechanical removal
and fixed stops is key to compliance to Mil Std 2000 which prohibits
adjustable mechanisms because of wire damage potential.

The disclosed device provides a minimum gap as indicated by 1
in the top left figure.  This minimum gap is sufficient to prevent
wire damage to the 36 AWG wire.  The gap is also small enough to cut
the insulation on the wire when the fixed stops, indicated by 2 in
the top left figure, are brought in contact.  The cutters are
normally held apart by spring tension in the handle, indicated by 3
in the lower left figure, and are closed manually to strip.  The
sequence of actions to strip occur as follows: Place wire to be
stripped in gap 1.  Manually apply pressure to handle closing fixed
stops 2 together.  Pull strippers along length of wire to remove
insulation.  Release manual pressure.
