Abstract

This article describes a method for viewing files greater than 64K within OS/2* Office Version 1. Through a file open action on a large file or mail item the user can view items greater than 64K that are in their inbasket. Once selected, two windows will appear. One window contains the text, and the second dialog box contains different labels within the file that the user can move to very quickly.

       This article describes a method for viewing files greater
than 64K within OS/2* Office Version 1.  Through a file open action
on a large file or mail item the user can view items greater than 64K
that are in their inbasket.  Once selected, two windows will appear.
One window contains the text, and the second dialog box contains
different labels within the file that the user can move to very
quickly.

      Customers created files greater than 64K on various hosts and
with different PC editors but were unable to view them from within
OS/2 Office Version 1.  When the attempt to view the large file was
made, the end_user received an error message and was informed that
the item could not be viewed because it exceeded the maximum size.

      The solution is to show the end-user two Presentation Manager*
windows when an open action is selected on the item greater than 64K.
The main window, the OS/2 Office Version 1 Writing pad in View mode,
contains the text and different options available for use.  The
second window, a dialog box contains different labels within the
document.  There is a push button available to save the large file as
smaller files.  The end user may select any label from the dialog box
and the text in the main window will change to show the information
at that point.  The large file may be saved as a single entry in the
mail cabinet for future reference from the main window File pull-down
