Manufacturing Restructure of Engineering Bills of Material

Disclosed is a method for controlling the restructure of
Engineering defined product structures (Bill of Material structures)
by Manufacturing organizations within their own Manufacturing View,
and the subsequent processing of follow-on Engineering Changes which
potentially affect the restructured Bills of Material.

Essential Elements of the Invention include:
      1.  Restructure of Manufacturing Updates
Manufacturing Originated Engineering Changes (MECs) are
distinguished from Engineering Changes (ECs) originated by the
Engineering Design Group.
           -    An EC is originated in the Design View.  The data
related to that EC (for a particular item) is copied to the
Manufacturing view when the EC is accepted into the Manufacturing
View.  This data is marked as Design Engineering Controlled.
           -    An MEC is processed directly against the data in the
Manufacturing View.
The MEC is used to permit the Manufacturing Group to
define its own Items and Bills of Material within the Manufacturing
View.  However, the MEC cannot be used to delete or modify a Bill of
Material Component that is marked as Engineering Controlled.
It is within this context that the restructure facilities
are provided.
      2.  Provision for Restructure
Restructure makes use of "Restructure From" and
"Restructure To" pointers.
           -    The "Restructure To" Pointer is attached to the
Engineering Defined Component (of the Engineering Defined Bill of
Material).  It indicates that the Component is no longer on this Bill
of Material, as far as Manufacturing is concerned.  The "Restructure
To" pointer contains information to ide...
