Using Listboxes to Store and Retrieve Data

This article describes a method of storing and retrieving
a set of character data within a Presentation Manager* (PM) program.
The application programmer takes advantage of the data storage and
retrieval logic built into the PM listbox control.

An invisible listbox is created during the processing of the
WM_CREATE message.  This listbox is then used to store and retrieve
formatted text strings.

To store data, a formatted character string is built and then
inserted into the invisible listbox.  This string should begin with a
unique key value.  After the data set is inserted into the listbox,
the program instructs the Presentation Manager to perform a listbox
search for a key value.  The listbox partially matches the unique key
value and retrieves the associated character string.  The retrieved
string is then parsed for use by the application.
