Spacer Handler Assembly

       The Spacer Handler Assembly applies unique "pick and
place" handling of spacer paper which provides improved tool
reliability.

      The Spacer Handler Assembly is a mechanism which is used to
transport spacer sheets.  The spacer sheets are used in the
multi-layer ceramic module during manufacturing processes.  The
spacer handler picks up individual spacer sheets using a vacuum.  The
spacer sheets are then transported to a tray station and placed in
between sheets of ceramic.

      The spacer handler is controlled by the tool software.  At the
initialization of the tool, the spacer handler head will "float" down
onto the stack of spacers and pick up one spacer sheet using a
vacuum.  A vacuum sensor is used to sense that a spacer is on the
spacer head.  Once the tool has started and a spacer sheet is needed,
the tool program will actuate the spacer handler's traverse cylinder
and the head will move to the output tray.  When the spacer head
reaches the output tray, a magnetic sensor is activated which signals
the tool software for its location.  The tool program will then
actuate the spacer down cylinder and then release the vacuum so that
the spacer can drop into the output tray.  The spacer head will
return to the up position and traverse to the spacer stack to repeat
the spacer loading sequence.
