Enclosed is a new method to edit a production schedule displayed as rectangular regions so as to balance the load of total production. The system provides separate displays to show the total production schedule and each product to be edited. The editing process in a display is dynamically reflected in the display for the total production schedule. The remainder of the capacity is also shown in an editing display to help in planning the task.

Method and Apparatus for Display of Production Schedule

       Enclosed is a new method to edit a production schedule
displayed as rectangular regions so as to balance the load of total
production.  The system provides separate displays to show the total
production schedule and each product to be edited.  The editing
process in a display is dynamically reflected in the display for the
total production schedule.  The remainder of the capacity is also
shown in an editing display to help in planning the task.

      In the system a rectangular region means a product, as in
Figure 1.  The height of a rectangle stands for the load and the
width stands for the period.

      The total production schedule includes various sizes of
products.  Editing the schedule in a single display is not
appropriate.  Therefore, the system provides a view of the total
production schedule in a display and provides a view of a single
product to be edited in a different display, as in Figure 2.  The
editing process is performed in the latter display.

      The system has internal data of the production schedule, and
each view shares the data.  Modification of a rectangle is reflected
in the internal data, and it causes an update of the total production
schedule.  Thus modification in an editing display is dynamically
reflected in the view of the total production schedule.
