Abstract

Disclosed is a PC Board Extender for Wave Soldering of connectors and PIH components. This PC Board Extender has helped and made possible the process of Wave Soldering and Reflowing of the edge connectors on PC Board. The edge connectors leave no board edge available to be clamped by conveyor fingers. This Extender simulates the board edge such that the board can be carried and transported across the Solder Wave in either direction, parallel to or perpendicular to the Wave.

PC Board Extender for Solder Wave of Connectors and PIH Components

      Disclosed is a PC Board Extender for Wave Soldering of
connectors and PIH components.  This PC Board Extender has helped and
made possible the process of Wave Soldering and Reflowing of the edge
connectors on PC Board.  The edge connectors leave no board edge
available to be clamped by conveyor fingers.  This Extender simulates
the board edge such that the board can be carried and transported
across the Solder Wave in either direction, parallel to or
perpendicular to the Wave.

      The figure below shows one complete three-piece assembly of the
Extender before and after its attachment to the board.  The board
edge like simulated member 1 is to be inserted under the connectors
strip at the same level as the board when the two members 2 are open.
The closing of the two members 2 will grip on the board edges, thus
locking the entire Extender assembly solidly on the board.  Each
member 2 is attached to member 1 via pivot pin 3.

      This Extender was designed as a single assembly with all
mechanical reference points and measures built-in, thus easing its
attachment almost with no time required from the operator.  It also
has made possible to rerun (rework) the Fully Connectors Populated
Panels through the Wave Solder Machine as easy as if it were a plain
panel without sacrificing quality.
