Universal Routing System

       Disclosed is a universal routing system which allows for
the separation of a variety of printed circuit boards with a standard
program and fixturing.

      A supplier of raw circuit boards may be instructed to pre-rout
cards and supply them with handling edges in a set tooling pattern
(see the figure).  The routing program consists of a single straight
cut.  The work is then rotated, and this procedure repeated.  The
user can input the length of cut desired, or just bypass this and the
router will cut a straight cut of 18 inches which is sufficient for
all single cards, even high-end memory boards.  The fixture used is a
phenalic plate which has been pre-drilled with tooling pin holes
located at 1-inch intervals along the side.  The origin tooling pin
is installed permanently, and the other needed pin is placed in the
appropriate hole for the width of the card.  Due to the pre-rout
specifications, the tooling for all cards is the same, thereby
reducing the cost of tooling.

      Advantages over full panel routing is an ability to deliver the
product without router programming, and thereby also taking away the
possible error associated with routing and the scrap generated when
improper routing programs are installed/tested.  The edge finish
achieved with this process is above required customer standards, and
is aesthetically pleasing compared to the rough finish of a snap
apart card.
