Link Control User Interface

This invention provides a user interface and implementation
design that allows users to connect objects.

A link control is a user interface to a link object.  A link
object is a system connection between any two or more software
components that can be encapsulated or callable from or within a
defined functional or procedural statement.  The connection either
contains or is a reference to the callable function or procedure.  In
object-oriented languages, the contents of a connection is an
event-message pair with possible parameters.  The link control is the
user interface to this event-message pair.  The link control is a
user interface representation to a connection between two or more
objects.

The link control user interface has up to three components.
Two components are the link handles and one component is the link
connector.  The link handles are objects that appear as visuals on a
computer screen.  They can be moved across the screen with the
assistance of a pointing device and they can be placed on top of some
other visual.  The dropping action indicates a connection is to be
made.  The link connector component continuously follows the pointer
during direct manipulation and then appears between the two link
handles when the connection is made.
