Abstract

Photocopiers with digital image processing can use the following algorithm to blank out the unsightly black borders in photocopies: I. Start with one edge of the image and do the following: a. Divide the image into thin strips of pixels that run parallel to the edge. b. If the strip nearest to the edge is solidly black, mark it for blanking out at the last step. c. Repeat for neighboring strips and stop at the first non-solid strip. II. Repeat section I. for the other three edges. III. Blank out all the marked portions. Note: 1. The definition of solidly black can be relaxed to include strips which are almost solidly black. 2. The user should be able to turn off this edge-blanking feature.

Edge Blanking Method for Photocopiers with Digital Image Processing

Photocopiers with digital image processing can use the
following algorithm to blank out the unsightly black borders in
photocopies:
  I. Start with one edge of the image and do the following:

non-solid strip.
II. Repeat section I.  for the other three edges.
