Easy Access to Distribution Information

Disclosed is a technique that allows users to access frequently
used distribution information for electronic communications through
direct manipulation from easily accessed user-defined lists.

A technique is provided to allow the user to create easily
accessible lists of names or groups that the user can use for
selection of appropriate information.

Such lists can be created as needed and could be lists of
individuals or distribution lists.  Each set of information is
represented by an icon as depicted in Figure 1.  When the user
selects the icon, the list of names or resources associated with that
icon would appear in a drop-down list (Figure 2).  The user could
select the appropriate information from the list.  The information
would be transferred to the appropriate address field, i.e., the
field in which the cursor had been located.  In addition, if the user
wished to use the entire list, the icon could be dragged and dropped
on the correct address field.  It should be emphasized that these
lists are intended to be relatively short and are intended to enhance
address book functions, not replace them.
