Abstract

It is necessary to maintain a clean environment around parts that will be assembled in a clean room. Conveyors are most often used to transport clean parts into the clean room. The conveyors must be kept clean in order to ensure high quality parts entering the clean room. This is a method for cleaning the rollers of a conveyor while it is in full operation. It requires very little manual intervention and can be used repeatedly. It also minimizes the safety problems associated with cleaning conveyors. The entire process takes only a few minutes, whereas, conventional cleaning processes take two people approximately four hours to complete. Conventional cleaning processes can only be done while the manufacturing line is shut down.

Automated Conveyor Cleaning Device

It is necessary to maintain a clean environment around parts
that will be assembled in a clean room.  Conveyors are most often
used to transport clean parts into the clean room.  The conveyors
must be kept clean in order to ensure high quality parts entering the
clean room.  This is a method for cleaning the rollers of a conveyor
while it is in full operation.  It requires very little manual
intervention and can be used repeatedly.  It also minimizes the
safety problems associated with cleaning conveyors.  The entire
process takes only a few minutes, whereas, conventional cleaning
processes take two people approximately four hours to complete.
Conventional cleaning processes can only be done while the
manufacturing line is shut down.

The present method includes a reusable cleaning plate 1 covered
with a cloth 2.  The type of cloth can be varied depending on the
cleaning needs.  The cloth is moistened with a cleaning solvent 3.
The cleaning plate 1 with the damp cloth 2 is positioned onto the
conveyor 4.  The conveyor is operated normally, as though a basket of
parts were running across it.  The action of the cleaning plate
across the rollers removes the contamination (see the figure).
