Inter-process Communications (RXIPCOM) Library for REXX Applications

Disclosed is the Automated Logistics and Production
Solution (ALPS) REXX Interprocess Communications (RXIPCOM) API
library.

OS/2* offers a REXX programming interface; however, for a REXX
program to communicate with another application via inter-process
messages, no built-in functions exist.  The IBM product Distributive
Automation Edition (DAE) provides program to program communication
APIs for C applications; however, DAE does not support a REXX
interface.  RXIPCOM gives programs written in REXX the ability to
communicate with DAE or Non-DAE applications.

Applications written in REXX call upon the RXIPCOM APIs to send
and receive messages.  RXIPCOM uses the native operating system
resources and/or device drivers such as DAE, NETBIOS, LAN Server(Mail
Boxes) and OS/2 Queues to transport messages without requiring any
type of communication configuration files.

RXIPCOM is unique in that it does not require any kind of
communication configuration information in order to transport
messages from program to program regardless of where they may reside
with respect to hardware.  In other words, RXIPCOM is smart enough to
find a program it has a message for, no matter where that program may
be in the system.  When a REXX application wishes to send a message
to another process, an RXIPCOM SEND MESSAGE API is called.  This
causes RXIPCOM to search sequentially through...
