Abstract

Disclosed is a design for visual indicators that show the user that there are required entry fields that must be filled in before a product can submit a panel for further action. There are two visual indicators in this design. The first visual indicator tells the user what a specific field needs to be filled in. The second visual indicator tells the user when all of the required fields have been filled in. These two visual indicators are implemented together on a programmable workstation.

Required Data Entry Fields

Disclosed is a design for visual indicators that show the
user that there are required entry fields that must be filled in
before a product can submit a panel for further action.  There are
two visual indicators in this design.  The first visual indicator
tells the user what a specific field needs to be filled in.  The
second visual indicator tells the user when all of the required
fields have been filled in.  These two visual indicators are
implemented together on a programmable workstation.

The data entry fields are marked with an asterisk (red for
those with color monitors) in front of the data entry field.  In
addition, the OK pushbutton is grayed out until all of the required
fields are filled in.  The figure shows the two visual indicators.
Once all of the required fields are filled in, the OK pushbutton will
be enabled, indicating that the user can submit this panel.

These items, the asterisk and the grayed OK pushbutton, add
little visual clutter, yet provide a clear, easily detectable signal
to the users.
