Abstract

Disclosed is a new type pin header called Gull Wing-Type Pin Header. This is a SMT (Surface Mount Technology) type pin header whose pin length can be longer than pin header height on the card.

Gull Wing Type Pin Header

       Disclosed is a new type pin header called Gull Wing-Type
Pin Header.  This is a SMT (Surface Mount Technology) type pin header
whose pin length can be longer than pin header height on the card.

      Fig. 1 shows the prior SMT-type pin header and it has following
characteristic.
Pin Length = Pin Header height on the card - Mold height

      Therefore, pin length is shorter than pin header height on the
card anytime.  The Mold in above formula holds Pin, so it needs some
height. In prior technology, there is some disadvantage as described
below.

      In the case of low profile pin header whose height is 3.5 mm,
the pin length is only 1.5 mm (refer to Fig. 2).  When connector is
attached to this pin header, the pin length of the pin header is too
short to hold the connector.  Generally, pin length should be longer
than 3 mm to hold connector (refer Fig. 5 for the connector shape).

      As described above, pin length is shorter than pin header
height with the previous technique.  Then pin length is too short to
hold the connector.  With this gull wing-type pin header, an SMT-Type
pin header whose pin length is longer than pin header height is
invented.

      The gull wing-type pin header (Fig. 3) is surface mounted on
the card which has hole (Fig. 4 is the cross section).  Fig. 4 shows
that the formula following is possible by this technique.
       Pin Length > Pin Header height on the card
