Lens Protecting Type Compact Inside Drive Lens Cleaner

       Disclosed is a device that cleans and protects the lens
mounted on the actuator of an optical disk drive.  The cleaning
device disclosed is operated by the drive load/unload mechanism.  No
additional motors or power sources are required. The compact design
can be implemented in 3-1/2-inch form-factor drives.

      The device will be best understood with reference to the Figs.
1 and  2 which schematically show the operation of this lens cleaner.
Arm 1 is fixed to the base to turn about rivet 1. Arm 2 is
fixed to the base to turn about rivet 3.  They are joined to each
other by rivet 2 to turn freely in a horizontal plane.  Arm 4 is
linked to the loading mechanism.  The brush attached arm 1 is moved
to clean the lens and cover it to prevent it from being contaminated.
The parts listed above are operated by the loading mechanism.

      The operation of the lens protecting and cleaning drive is
described as follows: When a media cartridge is not present, the
cleaner is in a position where the brush stays on the lens to protect
it from contamination.  When a media cartridge is inserted, arm 4 is
moved to position B, and arm 2 turns about rivet 3.  Arm 1 with brush
is moved away from the lens by arm 2.  When the media is unloaded,
arm 4 is moved to position A.  Arm 3 is moved by arm 4. Arm
2 turns about rivet 2 by arm 3.  Arm 1 turns about rivet 1
