Abstract

Prior art provides the sorting of the inbasket by item abstract, content perusal time, or associated calendar entries. However, a user is likely to prioritize the items in his/her inbasket according to the date by which this user must take action on this item, so a method is needed for sorting by due date.

Sort Inbasket Based upon Due Date

Prior art provides the sorting of the inbasket by item
abstract, content perusal time, or associated calendar entries.
However, a user is likely to prioritize the items in his/her inbasket
according to the date by which this user must take action on this
item, so a method is needed for sorting by due date.

This system provides the automatic sorting of the items in the
inbasket based upon a specified due date attribute.  The due date is
a particular field in the DIA data stream within the profile segment
(IDP).  This system interrogates the IDP for due dates on each item
in the inbasket, and it sorts the inbasket items in the order in
which action is required.  Furthermore, when the user looks at an
inbasket item, he/she can then press the Action Entry (AE) function
key and the system will automatically open the calendar and page to
the entry corresponding to the due date for this inbasket item, if an
associated calendar entry exists.  If no calendar entry exists, then
a popup may be presented whereby the user can create a calendar
event.
