Abstract

Current printing systems provide mechanisms to notify users whether a particular print task has completed. These systems generate electronic "print task completed" messages to users. In addition, prior methods provide means by which a print job can be released from a print queue. A user performing multiple tasks during a business day will, typically, send documents to printer devices. While these devices are printing, users often perform supplementary tasks, often forgetting that a particular print job has completed. Users frequently place print jobs on queues and leave the office for the day. These users often desire to retrieve these print jobs while at a remote location.

Facsimile Print Expulsion Notification Mechanism

Current printing systems provide mechanisms to notify users
whether a particular print task has completed.  These systems
generate electronic "print task completed" messages to users.  In
addition, prior methods provide means by which a print job can be
released from a print queue.  A user performing multiple tasks during
a business day will, typically, send documents to printer devices.
While these devices are printing, users often perform supplementary
tasks, often forgetting that a particular print job has completed.
Users frequently place print jobs on queues and leave the office for
the day.  These users often desire to retrieve these print jobs while
at a remote location.

Many organizations have policies concerning documents left
exposed for extended lengths of time, i.e., confidential documents
uncollected for an extended time.  It is advantageous to provide
alternate methods by which the notification and the print job can be
directed toward differing media devices.

This article describes a mechanism by which a user can
associate print notifications and print jobs to a facsimile device.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS

o   Facsimile Interceptor Service - Upon invocation of a print
request, this service parses the print request and generates a
facsimile reminder notice from the designated print parameters.
The component extrapolates the Document Name and associated print
parameters from the print request.  The user specifies a
predefined format for associating print request parameters for
specific facsimile operations, e.g., redial parameters...
