Storage of Vital Product Data in Non-Volatile Random Access Memory

      Disclosed is a storage of Vital Product Data (VPD) in
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM), together with a preferred
structure for the storage of such data, which can be used to identify
the product and subsystems.  Data stored in this way can be accessed
by the user for display during normal operation of the system.

      The dynamic data area of NVRAM has a dynamic structure, so that
each entry may be defined as a sub-block ID.  The VPD sub-block ID is
used to define the different entry divisions so that the file may be
searched by the BIOS program and modified by the SETUP program.  For
example, VPD data may be stored with a sub-block ID of "F0h" in
accordance with the following structure of sub ID values:

     00 00           Reserved

     00 01           Reserved for system model VPD requirements

     00 02           Reserved for manual system VPD requirements

     00 03 - 00 0F   Reserved for system VPD requirements

     00 10           Processor complex

     00 11 - 00 1F   Reserved for multiple processor complexes

     00 20           Co-processor

     00 21 - 00 2F   Reserved for multiple co-processors

     00 30           Memory planar card first slot

     00 31           Memory planar card second slot
