A method for converting Systems Network Architecture (SNA) telecommunications protocol line trace data into a computer program is disclosed. The resulting program when run accurately reproduces the captured line trace data recreating the original protocol exchange.

      A method for converting Systems Network Architecture (SNA)
telecommunications protocol line trace data into a computer program
is disclosed.  The resulting program when run accurately reproduces
the captured line trace data recreating the original protocol
exchange.

      The captured flow Systems Network Architecture (SNA) sequence
program generator accepts as input a formatted line trace produced by
the SNA Services licensed program product.  The trace information is
decoded by simple pattern recognition.  Each valid protocol message
is mapped to a corresponding macro definition.  The macro definitions
contain information necessary to establish directionality and content
of message.

      A translation occurs between protocol messages and macro
definitions.  The translation is written to a file.  The resulting
program file comprises a list of macro definitions which precisely
represents the protocol flow described by the trace input.  The
program file is compiled and run through the SNA test system to
recreate the protocol flow.
