Scroll Box Window Control for Personal Computers

      Described is a software implementation to provide scroll box
window control for use with personal computer window related
applications.  The implementation is designed to increase the
usability of horizontal and vertical scroll bars when manipulating a
mouse.

      Typically, windows related software have both horizontal and
vertical scroll bars which require the user to repeatedly move a
mouse between both the horizontal and the vertical positions in order
to obtain required graphical display positions.  The concept
described herein provides a mechanism that eliminates repeated mouse
movements between horizontal and vertical positioning by enabling the
user to control the scroll directions with a single mouse movement.
A scroll box window control display is automatically positioned in
the lower right-hand corner of a screen frame, near the intersection
of the horizontal and vertical scroll bars.  When the mouse is
manipulated, the window is scrolled both horizontally and vertically.

      The Fig. 1a shows a typical window display with Fig. 1b showing
an exploded view of the corner symbols of the scroll box control.
The visual appearance of the scroll box control is similar to the
buttons that are located at the ends of a scroll bar.  These buttons
have a three dimensional appearance because of the light and dark
shading around the perimeter of the control.  The face of the control
