Method for Providing Address Lists to Downstream Mail Recipients

      Disclosed is a mechanism for specifying which recipients on a
mail item should be included on all subsequent mail items as the
result of a resend, reply or forward.

      A user often composes a mail note to another user and wishes
the other user to include a particular copy list on all
correspondence resulting from the original note.  A method is needed
for enforcing a copy list on subsequent mail distributions and to
save a user from typing in addresses, names, and/or person
information for the purpose of communicating which other users should
be included on subsequent distributions.

      An originating user specifies a recipient or distribution list
with a special leading character (e.g., \) which indicates to this
disclosed system that the recipient must be present in the copy list
of all subsequent distributions of the current mail item (e.g.,
forward, resend, reply).  Thus, when the intended recipients receive
the item and then resend, forward or reply to the item, all denoted
recipients or distribution lists are automatically placed into the
copy list of the mail item and a message is communicated to the
current sender that such automatic copy listing is occurring.
Alternative embodiments using the present article as a convenience
feature will allow the third party users to further customize who
should be automatically added to the copy list.  Yet other
