Dual-Servo Writer

      Disclosed is a dual-servo track writing system for Hard Disk
Drive (HDD).  Dual-servo writer writes two HDDs at a time by only one
positioning system.  Ideas of "symmetric layout" and "initial track
search" are key points of this system.

      The Figure shows a dual-servo track writer.  The HDD-A 1 is set
normally and the HDD-B 2 is set up-side down.  This symmetric HDD
layout realizes to deep positioning system 3 accuracy and set both
clock head loading mechanisms 4 at open space.

      Access arm 5 on the top of the positioning system goes forward
to touch Read/Write Head Actuator-A 6 and defines initial track
position of HDD-A 1.  Step table 7 holding HDD-B 2 moves to cause
Read/Write Head Actuator-B 8 to touch access arm 5 and define the
initial track position of HDD-B 2.

      After completion of both initial track searches, table clamp 9
holds step table 7 tightly and an operation starts to write servo
pattern on both HDDs at the same time.

      This dual-servo track writer improves the productivity of the
servo write process over 50%.  This idea is applicable on a
conventional linear/rotary positioning system and also on a multiple
servo write system.
