Optical Data Storage Library for Disks without Cartridges Shell

      A data storage library concept for handling data recording
media disks is disclosed.  The design is based on an application of a
plurality of independent rotating trays with a common center of
rotation.

The design of this invention, as illustrated in Fig. 1, comprises:

o   A carousel 1 which comprises one or a plurality of independent
    rotating trays 2 with a common center of rotation.  Each tray is
    provided at the outer circumferential part with a plurality of
    loading section 3 for receiving the recording media disks 8, and
    between these receiving sections, there is at least one opening 4
    so that the disk can be passed through, each of the loading
    sections 3 is provided with a cut out portion to allow a picker
    to pass through while raising and lowering disks 8.

o   A picker which comprises two grippers 6 faced in opposite
    directions, the picker 5 can move along the Z axis and the
    grippers 6 can rotate against the X axis.

o   At each position of receiving sections or cut out sections, two
    drives 7 which can be mounted, one at the top with up side facing
    down, and one at the bottom with up side facing up.  During
    operation, the disks are picked or mounted to the drives and the
    receiving sections through the opening sections which can be all
