Shielded High-Density Contact System

      A shielded high-density contact system is disclosed which will
protect logic and memory circuits from noise and electromagnetic
compatability (EMC) pulses.  The contact system may be used as cable
card and/or card-to-board contact system in well-known IBM
technologies.

      Each individual contact element formed by the gold- or
palladium-plated contact pin 1 or the contact spring 2 will be
covered with a film of insulating material 3 in the region of the
housing.  The prefabricated contact elements will be fixed in their
grid and thereafter moulded into the housing 5 which is constructed
out of a conductive plastic material 4.  The conductivity of the
housing material will be achieved by adding some carbon or copper
particles into the plastic.  Gold- or palladium-plated guiding pins 6
and resceptacles 7 can be embedded into the conductive connector
housings.  The guiding system 6 has a double function, firstly
guiding the contact system and, secondly, leading off the noise and
any EMC pulses.  The noise and EMC pulse transport is maintained by
the cable shield via the guiding pins 6, the conductive housing
material 4, the card ground plane 8, the board connector guide
receptacle 7, up to the board ground plane 9.

      In order to exclude any EMC or noise pulses disturbing the
logic or memory function, the guiding system operates sequentially.
