Vacuum Actuated Direct Access Storage Device Pack Install Tooling

A method for holding and transporting disk pack assemblies for
insertion or removal from base castings is disclosed.

As shown in the Figure, the apparatus utilizes a radial v
groove in a plastic cup 1 to hold and center the top disk of the disk
pack 2.  At the center of the V groove, there is a slot which vacuum
is applied.  This slot and vacuum does not have enough holding power
to hold the pack; however, the pack once installed into the slot
causes the actuation of the lever arm 3 by means of the holes 4 in
the top of the gripper cup.  This lever drops down and comes into
contact with a groove in the top clamp ring and entraps the pack into
the radial grooved cup 1.
